The story
Where Labyrinths & Mazes comes from
A labyrinth and a maze are not the same thing, and the difference is the whole point of this family. A labyrinth has one path: it folds back on itself many times but you cannot get lost in it, and walking one is a meditative act rather than a puzzle — the eleven-circuit labyrinth set into the floor of Chartres cathedral is the famous example. A maze has junctions and dead ends and is solved rather than walked. We draw both, and we label which is which, because a puzzle book that calls a labyrinth a maze has mis-sold the page. Every maze we publish has been machine-checked to have exactly one solution.
