What "made in Dehradun, printed near you" actually means
Where the designs come from, where the printing happens, and why those are two different places.
Draft copy. This piece was written during the site build and is waiting on an editorial pass — the facts are checked, the prose is not final.
Two different things happen in two different places, and it is worth being clear about which is which.
Made in Dehradun
The designs are drawn here. Every line in every family — the kolams, the girih constructions, the botanical studies, the bold patterns — is made in our studio in Dehradun, in the foothills of the Himalayas. The research behind the gallery pages and the books is done here too.
Printed near you
The printing is not. Your order goes to the print partner closest to your delivery address, which is why a tee ordered in Manchester is usually printed in Europe and one ordered in Austin is printed in North America.
That means two things worth knowing. Delivery is usually under a week and the carbon cost of the shipping is a fraction of what air-freighting from India would be. And nothing is made before someone wants it, so there is no warehouse of unsold stock to eventually throw away.
What we do not claim
We do not hand-print anything. We do not own the presses. The people who print your order work for our partners, not for us, and we would rather say so than imply a workshop that does not exist.
